Job Description:

Navier is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with a strong background in sonar technology to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will lead the development of a novel forward-facing sonar system for our current and future vessels and integrate into our mission computer.

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of a cutting-edge forward-facing sonar system, leveraging advanced sonar technologies to provide real-time, high-resolution images of underwater objects and obstacles.
• Own complete electrical and software system design and incorporation into a hydrofoil vessel from prototype to product.
• Develop and refine the sonar system's hardware and software in the lab and in the field to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and safety.

Required Experience & Skills:

• Master’s/PhD degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent) with a focus on signal processing and image processing with at least 2 years of experience.
• Understanding of sonar principles, including acoustic propagation, refraction, multi-path effects, and noise filtering.
• Experience in selecting and installing marine transducers and sonar hardware, including selecting suitable locations on the hull to ensure clear forward coverage and minimal interference.
• Skills in tuning system parameters for optimal signal-to-noise ratio, resolution, and range, accounting for vessel movement and environmental conditions.
• Skills in image processing to denoise, filter, and enhance raw SONAR data to improve visual clarity and reduce background noise.
• Familiarity with techniques for feature extraction, such as contour, edge, and texture analysis, to highlight relevant objects or structures in SONAR images.
• Strong programming skills in languages commonly used for data processing and visualization (e.g., Python, C++, MATLAB).
• Experience with visualization libraries and frameworks (e.g., OpenCV, Qt, ROS visualization tools) to render SONAR data in 2D/3D and integrate with navigation systems.
• Skills in integrating SONAR data with other sensor inputs (e.g., GPS, IMU) and electronic chart systems to provide context-rich, georeferenced visualizations.
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
• Meticulous attention to detail to ensure designs are safe, efficient, and meet regulatory standards.

Highly Desired:

• Experience with the maritime environment (e.g., IP ratings, ABYC standard, corrosion issues, galvanic isolation).
• Familiarity with aero/hydrodynamics.
• Experienced and passionate boater.
